SuperGreen Trivia
grade 5-grade 6-grade 7-game-green

Completed all the lessons? Looking for a wrap-up activity?

SuperGreen Trivia is a PowerPoint presentation that is set up to run like a game-show. Split your class into two teams and have an individual from each team attempt to answer each question. The person who can provide the correct guess the fastest gets a point for their team!

Popcan Porsche
grade 5-energy-motion-friction-kinetic energy-potential energy-lever

Build a compound machine out of a popcan that converts potential energy to kinetic energy. As the can rolls, the potential energy that is stored in the wound rubber band is transformed into motion (kinetic energy) and heat. The can will roll if the energy stored in the wound rubber band produces a force great enough to overcome the force of friction between the bead and the disk and between the can and the floor.

Recycling Detectives
kindergarten-grade 1-grade 2-grade 3-grade 4-grade 5-recycle-reduce-reuse-paper-garbage-waste-green

Unlike garbage, recyclable materials can be broken down and rebuilt into new items like pillow stuffing, traffic cones or even the lining in ski jackets! Recycling or reusing items reduces the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. In this lesson, students will investigate the environmental importance of recycling and the impact of waste.

Alternative Energy
alternative energy-energy-electricity-battery-resources-circuit-electron-renewable-wind-water-solar-green-grade 4-grade 5-grade 6

In this lesson, students will explore methods of converting primary energy sources into electrical energy. Using renewable (green) and non-renewable energy sources, students will generate electrical currents. At the end of the lesson, students will compare renewable and non-renewable energy sources in British Columbia and pursue creative alternatives for clean energy.

Solar Energy
solar-sun-energy-photosynthesis-plants-light-heat-alternative energy-electricity-kindergarten-grade 1-grade 2-grade 3-grade 4-grade 5-grade 6

While investigating the power of the sun, students will discuss methods of protecting themselves from the sun's harmful ultraviolet radiation. They will explore solar thermal energy by examining a radiometer, playing with a solar UFO and creating solar ovens. They will use photovoltaic cells to power small motors.

Save Our Salmon
watershed-salmon-stream-lifecycle-water-animals-habitat-green-kindergarten-grade 1-grade 2-grade 3-grade 4-grade 5

A watershed is a section of land where all of the area’s water is collected and funnelled into the same waterway. Many human activities can negatively affect animals, particularly wild salmon, in their natural watershed habitat. The health of the watershed animal population depends on the health of their natural habitat. In this lesson, students will identify each stage of the salmon lifecycle and identify factors that affect salmon survival.
