Activities by Type Activity

Activity

"Whacky" Music

sound - vibration - pitch - air molecules - tune

In this activity, the students "whack" tubes of different lengths to produce various pitches.

Animal Restaurant

adaptations - animals - ecological niche - niche - mouth shape - food

Ecological niche refers to a species' role in its habitat. No two species have the same niche. Each species has a specific combination of food choice, how they find their food, daily schedule, reproduction, and shelter. In this activity, students will investigate the unique ways in which different species in the same ecosystem feed themselves and the special features that make it possible.

Attractive Balloons

electron - static electricity - positive charge - negative charge - attraction

Positive and negative charges are opposite and attract. But how does a neutral material react around something charged? In this activity, students will observe the effects of charged objects on neutral materials.

Backyard Brainstorm

Animals - plants - wildlife - habitat - biodiversity

Students are asked to name as many plants or animals as they can think of that live in their neighbourhood.

Balance Rules

balance - centre of gravity - base - centre of mass - gravity - gravitational pull - friction - gravitational force

We unconsciously balance objects every day, but rarely think about the conditions that must take place to achieve balance. In this activity, students define an object's centre of gravity by balancing a ruler.

Balloon Magnets

air - fluid - air pressure - balloons - bernoulli

In this experiment, students see the forces produced by the Bernoulli effect. As the students blow between the hanging balloons, they speed up the air, creating an area of lower air pressure. The balloons move together since the surrounding air, having a higher pressure, pushes the balloons together.

Balloon Rockets

forces - action forces - reaction forces - elastic energy

Students learn about Newton's Third Law by making balloon rockets.

Bee Waggle

Animals - bee - flower - plants - pollination - pollinator

Animals communicate in many ways. In this activity, students learn about the unique way that bees communicate with each other by learning and practicing bee waggles.
